Student Contribution: Priyanka Sharma
In a twist of irony, a Deakin University law student found themselves in a legal issue of their own making. Armed with an arsenal of legal knowledge and freshly printed notes from their Torts and Contracts classes, they were confident they could tackle any challenge – except, as it turned out, a parking fine.
It all began on a sunny Wednesday, when our ambitious law student parked their car in what they believed was a legitimate spot. Hours later, they returned to find a small, menacing slip of paper tucked under their windshield wiper: a parking ticket.
Filled with just fury, the law student got right to work, meticulously reviewing legal precedents, crafting complex arguments, and even citing obscure statutes in an amazing demonstration of legal expertise, certain that their arguments would dismantle the fine like a seasoned litigator.
Weeks passed, and the student received a response from the parking authority. As they tore open the envelope, their face fell reading the rejection of their appeal. According to the letter, their intricate arguments were null and void because the parking spot in question had a clearly visible "No Parking" sign – a detail they had overlooked entirely.
The reality of the situation set in like a lead weight. The law student, usually so articulate and composed, could only manage a defeated sigh.
As they paid the fine, the law student couldn't help but chuckle.
