Joining the DLSS as a committee member is open to anyone who is enrolled in a unit that contributes to a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) at Deakin. There are a few ways you can formally join the committee.

For first year students and Juris Doctor students, representatives from each cohort are elected at the beginning of Trimester 1. The elections are held online and voted on from the cohort of the relevant group.

Members may join the committee through our Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at the end of Trimester 2 each year. At the AGM, all Executive positions are declared vacant. Members must nominate themselves for eligible roles prior to the AGM. 

All other positions, known as Officer positions, are open in November and students may apply through an application process. The application process involves a written application and an interview. Candidates are appointed by the Executive members.

A final option is to apply for any position that arise as a casual vacancy. These positions are ad hoc and may appear at any stage throughout the year.
